For Betty Wong Tung, the interest in ski and snow apparel stemmed from a foundation of superb-quality manufacturing experience back in Hong Kong. For over 40 years, the Wong family had been answerable to the most stringent production standards of European ski and outerwear brands. Though the family business prospered, their success was relegated to "behind the scenes" recognition, as they were not a brand in and of themselves. After completing a chemical engineering degree at UC Berkley, Betty decided to change her career path and follow in her family's footsteps. With the backing of her father's factories—the best production facilities in the industry - Betty stepped into the spotlight and in 1978 ventured to create FERA®, an original brand of her own.

At a time when female-owned businesses were virtually unheard of, Betty forged her way into the ski apparel market armed with a few select styles of pants and bibs. Slowly but surely, the FERA brand gained the respect of the industry and found root in local ski shops and sporting good stores. As word started to spread about FERA, Betty took note of a single line that stood apart from the rest of the product catalog - pants. FERA's women's pant line had out-classed every competitor in style, price and most importantly, fit, and grew into a major industry mover in the snow apparel business. Record sales and popularity of the FERA brand compelled the board members of Snowsports Industries America (SIA, the definitive trade show in snow sport apparel) to recommend Betty Tung as their first female Asian board member.

Today, nearly 30 years later, Betty continues to take an active part in the direction of FERA International and the FERA brand alongside her children, Patty and Eric. As sassy as the day she came to the USA, Betty spends her time outside of work keeping football stats, practicing Pilates, working out and window-shopping for fast cars.
